Ideum has built a platform for developers to create complex gestures for apps that can run on 100-inch table top displays or the small screens of Ultrabooks running Windows 8. Ideum’s GestureWorks platform shows how developers will increasingly have the freedom to think beyond developing apps that are limited to those that require a keyboard or a mouse. The platform makes it easier to develop for the new Intel-based Ultrabooks that have the multitouch capabilities that come with Windows 8.

Apple is reportedly looking into ways tot replace its Intel processors in Macs with new chips based on the designs it uses for its iOS-based devices. The company has previously been rumored to be contemplating such a move, but Bloomberg reports today that Apple’s engineers are now more confident in their underlying chip designs and their ability to power Mac desktops and notebooks.
According to a report form Bloomberg News, Apple is considering switching away from the Intel chips that have been powering Mac computers for years, in favor of chips designed in-house, like the A6 and A6X powering the new iPhone 5 and iPad 4. Mo…

Motorola outed its first Intel-powered smartphone today: the Razr i. The debut, strategically planned in London, raises questions of whether Motorola can claw back market share in Europe — where it’s been hammered as Android buyers opt for Samsung’s Galaxy range of devices (before Sammy, it was HTC making all the running).
The Razr i is also interesting because it’s Intel’s first smartphone from a very recognisable mobile maker — now owned by Google.
Intel’s mobile chipsets have popped up in a handful of devices over the past few months, but Motorola — arguably the biggest of Intel’s smartphone partners — has been content to keep quiet about the fruits of its efforts longer than others.
Well, that wait is finally over. Motorola officially revealed the Intel-powered RAZR i at a (relatively brief) press event in London today, and as early rumors foretold it looks nearly identical to the recently-released RAZR M.
Calling it their “biggest launch since the original RAZR” (no sniggering in the back row, please), Motorola’s RAZRi is the first phone with a 2GHz Intel processor; however good that may be. Sounds impre…
Intel will not support Linux in its upcoming chip for laptops and tablets. That leaves Windows 8 as the only operating system that will run on the Clover Trail Atom chip.
To be clear, Linux can run on Clover Trail because it is an x86 chip. But it’s unlikely any device maker will want to go to the trouble to do it.
